Leonardo to step down as Milan boss

05/14/2010 - Milan, Italy (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - AC Milan have finally ended the speculation surrounding the future of Leonardo by confirming he will be replaced as coach after just one season at the San Siro.

The former Brazil international was promoted from his role as technical director following Carlo Ancelotti's departure to Chelsea 12 months ago.

However, the rookie coach failed to bring instant success to the Rossoneri and will vacate his post following Saturday's season-ending Serie A game against Juventus.

Milan were knocked out of the Champions League at the last 16 stage and will finish the season in third place in the Serie A table.

"We mutually announce that we are parting," confirmed Leonardo at a press conference on Friday.

Vice president Adriano Galliani explained: "I must say that I struggled a lot last year to convince Leonardo to become coach. Now we come to this choice.

"Of course it was a joint decision, agreed with the esteem, affection and friendship forever."
